Video can seem like a long, tedious, and unknown process to many when first dabbling in the media form. However, this blog is here to put those myths to bed and show that creating a video can be a painless, fun and quick process when working with the right team.

If you are a business owner or a marketing manager and you need to make a video, but have a lot of questions, then this blog is for you. We want to clarify the video process and timeline, specifically for a 1-minute video and give you the answers on how all of this works.

Please note this timeline does not account for video shooting. You can expect an extra week to the entire process if filming is included. This is for animated/motion graphic videos that do not require any filming.

With that, let’s dive in!

Creating a video is a 3-stage process: pre-production, production and reviews. The time it takes to make a video will be determined by specific decisions that are made for each stage. A 1-minute video with a full script will generally have 140 words or less, and will take THREE weeks to accomplish the 3 stages. Let’s break them down.

Pre Production

This is where you discover what you want to say, and how you want to say it. You establish the objectives of your campaign, and build the stepping stones to your video. This stage will generally take around 7 business days to complete.

Kickoff Meeting: 30-60min

  • Learn more about the business
  • Discover the goals of the video
  • Establish objectives of your campaign and how video fits within it

Establish Timeline: 30-60min

  • Establish a timeline for communication and deliverables

Scripting: 3 Days

  • This step will vary depending on how involved you will be in creating the script. Some businesses want to write it on their own and some prefer to have it written, then step in and shape it from there to its final version.

Storyboarding: 4 Days

  • Storyboarding is where you take the script, and break it down into scenes. You then collect all media assets and present a visual representation of the overall look of the video. This will give you a better idea of the overall aesthetic and style before the animation and editing process begins.

Production

Now that you’ve established the stepping stones to build the actual video, it’s time to put that plan into action. This stage generally will take 4 business days and involves: editing, animation, motion graphics, color grading, sound design and music. If the first stage is completed properly, production should be a smooth process that consists of executing on the script and storyboard.

Editing: 2 Days

  • This includes taking the media assets (stock footage, motion graphics, branding, etc.) and compiling them in a linear timeline according to the script.
  • This also includes, at the end of the production stage, music, sound design, and any color grading required.

Motion Graphics/Animations: 2 Days

  • Any motion graphics or animations that need to be built from scratch or incorporated into the video, will be done at this step.

Reviews

At this stage, you will have access to your finished video. You will have the opportunity to look it over, deliberate it with your team and send your consolidated feedback to the project manager. Generally, you will receive up to 2 revisions per video. This process will take around 4 business days.

To recap, a 1-minute business video can be a smooth process that gives you something you can be proud of and represents your brand to the world. With 3 simple steps, pre production, production and reviews, the only steps you’ll need to be involved in are the first and last. The rest is done for you. Find the right team for your video needs and you too will soon have a business video.
